How we promote sustainable development

We promote sustainable development without compromising on returns

We have a mandate to promote sustainable development without compromising on returns.

Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs is an accepted definition of sustainable development. The three dimensions of social, environmental and economic aspects must be taken into account in order to promote sustainable development. Första AP-fonden promotes sustainable development in several different ways through our investments and active ownership:

  • Sustainable investments where the Fund’s contributions in terms of financing or active stewardship are particularly evident.
  • Transitions through investments with clear potential for improvement, and by supporting companies to make positive changes through our stewardship.
  • Transitions in systemically important areas by means of collaborations and initiatives, and also by helping to build knowledge.

Sustainable investments

Whenever possible, the Fund should capitalise on investment opportunities that are deemed to meet the Fund’s requirements for expected return and risk, as well as contributing positively to sustainable development. These are known as sustainable investments. We focus in particular on sustainable investments in asset classes such as unlisted and green and social bonds, where the Fund’s contribution in terms of financing or active stewardship is particularly evident. We base our efforts on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
